AMD Radeon HD 6790 tipped to bring mid-range battle to GeForce GTX 550 Ti

AMD may have got a spanking with NVIDIA’s GTX 590 – on paper at least – eclipsing their own Radeon HD 6990, but the company isn’t wasting time weeping and applying cooling balm. Instead it’s apparently readying the AMD Radeon HD 6790, according to NordicHardware, set to take on NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 550 Ti in the lucrative mid-range segment, with a Barts LE core based on the GPUs used in the Radeon HD 6800 series.

According to the leak, the HD 6790 will have 10 stream units for a total of 800 processors, an 850MHz GPU frequency, 30 texture units and 32 ROPs, along with a 256-bit memory interface. It will have 1GB of GDDR5 memory and support up to 1.34 TFLOPs performance with a 33.6 Gtexel/s texture fillrate.
That, as the chart below suggests, will slot the HD 6790 in at the low-end under the HD 6850 and HD 6870; it’s also possible that AMD could brand it the Radeon HD 6830. Production cards are likely to drop at around the $150 price point, with a launch expected on April 5.

ARM server chips taking on Intel with 480 core clusters

Microsoft isn’t the only company looking to many lower-powered chips to replace a few high-powered CPUs in modern servers; ARM’s first server processor has been detailed by Calxeda, a quad-core chip squeezing up to 480 cores in a 2U chassis. According to Computer World, the new ARM processors will be based on Cortex A9 cores – the same family as used in NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 – and have an onboard interconnect fabric for communication between the nodes.

When paired with RAM, each ARM node should consume 5W of power under load. 120 nodes could fit into a 2U box, for a total of 480 cores, and Calxeda is working on the necessary software layer so that developers can recreate server apps that will run on ARM chips.

Exact processor specs, including clock speed and availability, are yet to be confirmed. Calxeda – under the name Smooth-Stone – secured $48m in funding back in August last year. AMD is believed to be readying its own server range, using its Bobcat APU chips.

Scientists and Engineers of University of Michigan computer at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference in San Francisco presented papers on two systems :

A prototype implantable eye pressure monitor for glaucoma patients and a compact radio for wireless sensor networks. It is as-of-yet-unnamed mini-computer was created as implantable ocular pressure monitor for patients with glaucoma, but the authors see a future in which we are all swarming with little buggers. Access to little more than a cubic millimeter of space, food thing a pressure sensor, memory, thin film batteries, solar cell, wireless, and low-power microprocessor, all in a very small translucent container. Processor for this little guy uses the “extreme” to keep the bed to sleep at 15 minute intervals and suck Nano 5,3 W during wakefulness, and a low battery or artificial light 10 hours-a-half hours of sunlight. Using a pressure sensor and radio for communication with the outside reader measure, the system will constantly monitor the implementation of glaucoma, without those annoying contacts. Of course, the mad scientists behind look forward to the day when a small unit will do much more with each of us hundreds of computer dental implants in our whole body – looks like a bright future for cyborgdom.

IOGEAR’s launch new wireless keyboard with Bluetooth

IOGEAR’s multi-link Bluetooth keyboard with touchpad (GKM611B) can switch between six Bluetooth wireless devices, simple management HTPCs, gaming consoles, smartphones and more.

IOGEAR’s has just introduced a wireless keyboard to control them all, and it’s amazing (if not creatively) the name of the keyboard Bluetooth Multi-Link with a touch panel, or GKM611B for brevity. Bigfoot Networks E2100-powered motherboards from Asus, Msi and Gigabyte

Back to Computex, CEO of Bigfoot Networks, told us that his next major goal was to motherboards.

The company has already infused with his killer E2100 gaming network card in the GPU, and here at CES, it is officially announced three partnerships with major authorities of the board. MSI, ASUS and Gigabyte are all aboard, with the latest to offer a new line of G1-Killer mobos later this year. ASUS will be dishing out ROG Rampage III Black Edition (see above), which will be presented at the combined E2100 LAN / Audio called called Thunderbolt, but your guess is as good as ours when it comes to processor specifications and compatibility. Prices and registration information remains a mystery to the whole spectrum, but it’s almost a guarantee that we will see more of these links or in the coming months.

You may remember something similar from back in the day, but LG is looking to commercialize the idea.

At the bottom of rodents has a clear (glass or plastic plates, we’re not sure), packed with five LEDs for the camera to see the image in the mirror. To kickstart the process of scanning for widows or Mac computer, simply press the scan button and cheers – software activation and output in the scanner to float above. With two lasers found on the top and bottom of the bottom, you can actually run your mouse in any direction and it will reach regardless of view – it will even copy to translate the page into editable text in a document editor. He also serves as a good mouse (duh!), with a scroll wheel and left, right and back buttons. Software, in case you’re wondering, could not be easier to use. Such as JPEG, TIFF, PNG and PDF files can be exported to your favorite social networking sites, and you have the basic features for editing scanned images at the time.

OCZ Vertex 3 EX and Z-Drive R3 PCIe SSD at CES

OCZ Technology Group, Inc. (Nasdaq:OCZ), a leading provider of high-performance solid-state drives (SSDs) and memory modules for computing devices and systems, will showcase the Company’s latest SSD solutions at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at the Aria Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.

OCZ Technology has just busted a trio of new solid state solutions here at CES, so we will not waste time getting started. Your first is oriented, the MLC-based vertex 3 Pro, which converges very fast interface to SATA 6 Gb / sec. Those with a ridiculously deep pockets to buy up to 1.2 TB of storage on board, but, unfortunately, does not serve OCZ MSRPs to one of these guys.

Shuttle Introduces Two New Mini-PC Models

The Mini-PC maker is about to release two new barebone systems on Intel’s “Sandy Bridge”. The XPC Barebone SH67H3 and SH67H7 will support Intel’s i3, i5, and i7 processors and both will be available by the end of March.

The small form factor of Mini-PCs is pack a lot in a tiny bundle and Shuttle’s new models are no different. Both the SH67H3 and SH67H7 can hold two 3.5” drives and one 5.35” drive with four DIMM slots capable of up to 16 GB of DDR3 memory. There are plenty of ports for users too with four USB 2.0 slots and three USB 3.0 slots.

The chassis and case cover for both models are made of aluminum and a 300 W power supply keeps the Mini-PCs running. The H7 model is the more stylish of the two with ports and connectors hidden behind drive doors, while the H3 is more traditional with all connectors exposed.

Mini-PCs for 2nd generation Intel Core processors Product demonstrations at CeBIT 2011 in Hall 17, Stand E41 Shuttle Inc., a leading developer and manufacturer of multi-form-factor solutions such as the world-famous XPC Mini-PC Barebones, showcases two models for Intel’s new 32 nm-technology processor generation (code name: Sandy Bridge) at CeBIT 2011. Shuttle, as the Mini-PC pioneer, is set to launch the XPC Barebone SH67H3 and SH67H7 at the end of March 2011. Both are based on the Intel H67 Express chipset and boast extremely impressive technical features to support all Intel Core 2nd generation i3, i5 and i7 processors with LGA1155. There are four DIMM slots that enable DDR3 memory support with a maximum capacity of 16 GB. Shuttle’s recommended retail price for the Barebone SH67H3 is EUR 239.00. For the XPC Barebone SH67H7 the recommended retail price is set to EUR 251.00 (both prices ex VAT).
